Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia & Advanced Treatment with HoLEP

Over the course of their lives, many men experience gradual changes in urination. These changes are often linked to the development of a prostatic adenoma, which in the vast majority of cases is benign. An enlarged prostate can compress the urethra and obstruct normal urine flow, leading to symptoms such as:

  • Reduced or weak urinary stream

  • Difficulty initiating urination (hesitancy)

  • Frequent urination, particularly at night (nocturia)

  • A sensation of incomplete bladder emptying

  • Episodes of urinary incontinence or even acute urinary retention

When symptoms significantly impact quality of life or fail to respond to medical therapy, surgical intervention becomes necessary.

Cosmoclinic is equipped with a state-of-the-art 100W Holmium Laser system for performing Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP), offering a comprehensive and highly effective solution for benign prostatic hyperplasia. The procedure is carried out using specialized equipment and a structured surgical protocol, ensuring maximum precision and safety at every stage.

Laser Enucleation of the Prostate is performed transurethrally, without any external incisions. Using the Holmium Laser, complete detachment (enucleation) of the obstructive adenomatous tissue is achieved, while simultaneously ensuring effective hemostasis. The removed tissue is then endoscopically morcellated and safely evacuated.

What is the HoLEP Method?

HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) is an advanced, minimally invasive technique for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia. Powered by Holmium Laser technology, it completely removes the adenomatous portion of the prostate causing the blockage, entirely without skin incisions.

HoLEP has largely superseded traditional surgical options, such as Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) and open prostatectomy, by providing a more controlled and thorough removal of the adenoma. Due to its advanced technological requirements and specialized training demands, the procedure is performed at specialized medical centers equipped with appropriate expertise and technology.

Advantages of HoLEP

The HoLEP technique offers major clinical advantages:

  • Definitive solution: The complete removal of the adenoma ensures long-lasting outcomes with exceptionally low recurrence rates.

  • Virtually bloodless procedure: The simultaneous hemostasis provided by the laser allows the procedure to be performed safely, even in patients on anticoagulant therapy (following medical evaluation).

  • Suitable for any prostate size: Effectively treats small to very large (glandular) adenomas.

  • Shorter hospital stay: Typically requires a reduced hospital stay compared to traditional techniques.

  • Rapid recovery: Most patients resume daily activities quickly, experiencing fewer irritative symptoms commonly associated with other surgical methods.

Treatment selection is always determined following an individualized urological evaluation, taking into account symptom severity, prostate size, and the patient's medical history. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact us.
